• A Christian can serve God through service to humanity in Civil Government: How?

Books like Joshua, Judges, I & II Samuel, I & II Kings, and I & II Chronicles unfold events happening in and to Israel in the political arena. They document what the political leaders of Israel were doing, how they affected Israel, and what God thought about these events. Nehemiah, Esther, and Daniel tell us the stories of people who sought to serve God faithfully in the political arena. Interestingly, Nehemiah, Esther, and Daniel each served pagan and idolatrous nations and kingdoms. Today, some Christians believe we can serve only the righteous in government. But scripture does not bear this out. Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon were written primarily, and possibly in their entirety, by two kings, David and Solomon. By Landa Cope

  • Christian political theology can be classified into several categories, but it's not necessarily a straightforward conservative or liberal ideology. You see, Christian political theology is a complex and diverse field that encompasses various perspectives and traditions.

We have *_Establishmentarianism_*, which argues for a close relationship between the church and the state, with the state recognizing and supporting the church. Then there's *_Two Kingdoms Theology_*, which posits that there are two separate kingdoms, one spiritual and one temporal, with the church focusing on spiritual matters and the state handling temporal affairs.

We also have *_Anabaptist_* or *_Radical_* traditions, which emphasize the importance of simple obedience to Scripture and often advocate for a more separatist approach to politics. And let's not forget *_Catholic Social Teaching_*, which provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the relationship between faith and politics, emphasizing the importance of social justice, human dignity, and the common good.

In terms of conservative or liberal ideology, it's not always easy to pin down. Some Christian political theologies, like *_Theonomy_*, might be seen as more conservative, as they argue for a more direct application of biblical law to civic life. On the other hand, *_Liberation Theology_* might be seen as more liberal, as it emphasizes the importance of social justice and advocacy for the poor and marginalized.

Ultimately, Christian political theology is a rich and nuanced field that resists easy categorization. It's shaped by a complex array of historical, cultural, and theological factors, and it continues to evolve and adapt to new challenges and contexts ¹.

  • As a Christian in civil government, it's essential to prioritize ethical and moral principles over political correctness. When we compromise on our values to fit in with the crowd, we risk losing sight of what's truly important. Being morally right means standing up for what we believe in, even if it's unpopular.

In the context of Christian values, honesty, integrity, and compassion are fundamental principles that guide our actions. As a representative of the kingdom of God on earth, we have a responsibility to uphold these values and promote justice, equality, and righteousness. If we're more focused on being politically correct than doing what's morally right, we're not truly representing our constituents.

Consider the story of Daniel in the Bible, who refused to compromise his values even when faced with pressure from the government. He stood firm in his beliefs and was willing to face the consequences, trusting that God would guide and protect him. This kind of courage and conviction is what's needed in civil government today.

Ultimately, being morally right means being willing to take a stand for what we believe in, even if it's difficult or unpopular. It means prioritizing our values and principles over political correctness and seeking to promote the greater good. As Christians in civil government, we have a unique opportunity to make a positive impact and bring about change that reflects the kingdom of God on earth.
